Selmer Paris – Cigar Cutter

Selmer Paris original gold Plated Super “Cigar Cutter” alto saxophone manufactured in 1932, serial number 15835.

The “Super” series was first released in 1931, following the “New Large Bore” model. For a few years Selmer made the Super with a unique looking octave key rocker resembling a cigar cutter. Which is of course how this series of Supers got the nick name Cigar Cutter.

This particular alto shows off its original gold plate finish and is with the original neck as well as all of the original key work. While the alto has plenty of honest play wear it also has a beautiful look featuring crisp engraving. The ultra elaborate engraving stretches across the bell area as well as the bottom bow. In addition to floral pattern there is also butterfly print above the Selmer logo.

Physically the alto is in great shape in its current state. Like many of the best playing vintage instruments this one does have a history of past body and solder repairs. Some of the guard feet have been repaired in the past as well as the post ribbing at the top of the body tube. The bell to body brace has also been repaired. A previous owner did add a brass plate next to the right hand thumb rest for added protection. The original neck with the saxophone has previously had the octave key saddle repaired. This neck does not show history of any major pull downs from past use.

The cigar cutter came into our shop playing nicely on a recent pad job from another shop. Its set up features a new set of premium leather pads and metal dome resonators. All of the cork and felts are also new. Because of the line in our shop and the fact this horn is currently playing nicely we are selling it in as is condition with out adding any additional work to it.
