This is a sweet, original lacquer 1967 vintage Selmer Paris Mark VI alto sax in American style engraving, serial number 148173. This alto has been around the block but is in remarkably good physical condition still. Due to receive a fresh overhaul from our repair shop, it will come to its next owner in perfect adjustment.
The photos tell the tale on this Mark VI. It shows a decent amount of lacquer wear from honest use over the years, but amazingly no resoldered joints, which is practically unheard of on a horn that has been out in the real world getting played. There's some past dent work in the body tube but the bottom bow curve and bell flare are both in great shape. The original neck has a couple very superficial cosmetic pings on one side, which we'll clean up during our work, but doesn't appear to have ever been pulled down.
This sax received a repad a few years ago but the work isn't up to our standards, so to really get the most out of this premium Mark VI, we're going to start fresh. Included in the price is our full overhaul, which will include premium firm leather pads, original screwback Selmer metal resonators, and all new material. We'll clean up that past dent work in the tube, clean it well all around, and optimize key heights and spring tensions for optimal feel and response.
This alto is real close to that “Sanborn” era of Mark VI's, so you know what to expect when you put a mouthpiece on it. Big, bold sound, with a fat tone down in the middle and lower registers and an upper range that just screams. With our work, it will be playing better than it has in decades.
