Store Information
This is a very sweet vintage C.G. Conn New Wonder Bass saxophone in original silver plate, serial #85909. Manufactured in 1922. The sax was recently cleaned up and professionally restored by another pro shop. Ships playing on a fresh overhaul along with a new wood hard case.
This is a super fun to play bass and is absolutely exceptional in comparison to many of the other American vintage bass saxophones we have sold over the years. Being a bass it does take more air to play but it has the great free blowing response and world class sound you want in any Conn. Physically it is about as clean and pretty as any vintage bass you will see out there. The Conn New Wonder bass show cases its original silver finish with centerpiece engraving and gold wash around the inner bell flare. Its construction features straight tone holes, large key guards and X bell to body brace. Keywork from low Bb to Eb palm key, (no bisc key or front F) This sax is also with the original neck.
The body of the saxophone is in remarkable physical condition. Like most bass saxophones of its vintage there is a history of body and solder repair. As it sits now the body is very straight and clean. If you look closely you can still see a few small dings on the body, but nothing major. The neck and all of the tone holes are in great shape.
The bass was recently polished and mechanically overhauled by tech Miles Davis. Miles took his time on the restoration and addressed all of the soldered tone holes to make sure they are all in proper working order. Careful body work was also performed on the bass in the process. You can see where there has been some past repair around the X brace as well as the upper octave pip. (see pictures at end of photo spread 36-39)
The saxophone is now playing like an absolute dream with a brand new set of premium leather pads and metal resonators. Because the bass came into our shop playing superbly with work from another pro shop we are selling it in its current condition. Ships with a brand new wood hard case.
