Sanborn Series Mark VI

This is a very sweet original lacquer Selmer Paris Mark VI alto saxophone, serial number 139926. These Mark VI altos in this range are very often called “Sanborn” vintage. The altos from this period are excellent players. This one is with a factory original high F# key. The high F# was a special order item at the time this saxophone was made. This particular Mark VI came into our shop still on all of the original pads and older materials. As such it is currently in line to receive a mechanical restoration in our shop and will ship in perfect playing condition.

Physically the alto is in immaculate condition with no history of major repairs. Looking over it closely, there is no traces of past solder repair. All of the original key guards are present and in good condition. The guard feet all still have clean contact to the body. Body tube, bow, bow cap, bell and bell flare are all in immaculate condition. The sax does show a modest amount of play wear from past use. Most likely the alto received a decent amount of play time early on but then spent most of its life tucked away in a case. This sax is also with the original neck. The neck shows similar cosmetic condition to the rest of the body. It has never been pulled down.

If you are looking for a spectacular player worthy of bragging about this alto is going to be a match made in heaven. The sound character of this alto is rich and very full. It features a lush, free blowing response to air. In comparison to the earlier Mark VI's from the late 50's this one has a much more precise and focused balance across its entire range. Its great balance and response allows for amazing pitch control and flexibility.

The alto came into our shop on all the original pads and factory materials. It is currently awaiting a professional overhaul in our shop. The work will include a dissemble and cleaning followed by precise key fitting and a thorough regulation of the key work. Once complete it will be in perfect playing condition with a brand new set of premium leather pads, brown nylon resonators as well as corks and felts.

This Mark VI ships with a fresh overhaul from our shop as well as the original Selmer zip case.
