This is a very striking Selmer Paris Mark VI tenor saxophone, serial number 119780. The body and neck are in raw brass and the key work is in a dark clear lacquer.
This tenor was recently overhauled in our shop and is sitting in clean condition with a unique look. When we first got the sax it was an old unfinished restoration project from a retired tech. The horn had seen quite a bit of past body and solder repair. They had also sent the keys off to be re-lacquered in an amber finish. The engraving on the sax was also professionally re-cut and looks quite crisp at this time. Looking over the saxophone carefully it has had a history of past body and solder repair. There is a notable previous repair to the low Eb tone hole. There is also a large brass patch located in the crook of the bow. The neck of the saxophone has also seen some past repair and an additional support brace has been added between the factory brace and neck cork.
In order to bring the saxophone back to perfect playing condition it just received a mechanical restoration in our shop. It is now sporting a brand new set of leather KSI pads, metal domed resonators and all new felts and corks.
This sax plays with a big clear sound from top to bottom. It can be played with a clear edge while keeping a even timbre balance across all registers. The altissimo register and projection of this instrument is also very nice.
Definitely one of the most unique looking Mark VI's we have had in the shop in some time. Ideal for players looking to get into a Mark VI at a better price point.
