This is the line of newly introduced Francois Louis Spectruoso mouthpieces. Available currently for the tenor sax with other horns to follow soon, these are fantastic mouthpieces which play extremely resonant, and were designed with today’s saxophonist in mind.
For starters, the pieces are made from a new composite material, which resonates like wood but with the absolute consistency and focus of hard rubber. The result is a very powerful and commanding mouthpiece that doesn’t sacrifice in richness or character of tone. The mouthpieces are available in two chambers, this model is the ML, or Medium Large chamber. These have a more traditional Ogival chamber, which play with a more airy tone than the SP’s, are perfect for the Hard Bop style of the 50’s, but with the efficiency of a more modern styled mouthpiece.
These pieces are available in the following facings:
- T235 – 2.35mm tip opening (.092”) – equivalent to a traditional 6 opening. Has a medium facing length and progressive facing curve. Very stable with enough flexibility to vary sound colors & a fast response.
- T260 – 2.60mm tip opening (.102”) – equivalent to a traditional 7 opening. Has a medium facing length and soft facing curve. Great flexibility with a lot of projection and immediate response.
- T280 – 2.80mm tip opening (.110”) – equivalent to a traditional 8 opening. Has a medium short facing length and progressive facing curve. This is the “universal” mouthpiece : very stable & a centered pitch. Lots of projection with bottom on the attack of the note, & very precise.
- T285 – 2.85mm tip opening (.112”) – equivalent to a traditional 8 or 8* opening. Has a medium long facing length and soft facing curve. Plays with a little more resistance and takes more air, and with more flexibility. Best for professionals that need to use all possibilities of dynamics, sound colors, and range in one mouthpiece.
- T315 – 3.15mm tip opening (.124”) – equivalent to a traditional 9 opening. Has a medium long facing length and progressive facing curve. Well balanced and efficient, keeps a well centered pitch with flexibility. Lot of projection and a fat low range a la Ben Webster.
- T350 – 3.50mm tip opening (.137”) – equivalent to a traditional 10 opening. Has a long facing length and progressive facing curve. Enormous sound, flexibility, projection, and fat low range. Perfect for the player who needs total freedom of expression and is prepared to put a lot of air into the mouthpiece. Not for everybody but wow!
