Saxquest at JEN 2012

Saxquest’s Mark Overton, George Bunk, and Zac Minor made the trek to JEN 2012 this year. George was pleased to meet one of his idol’s, Ernie Watts. At one point, it seemed Saxquest was taking over, as players spread out to try our horns!

Emergency Repair for Branford Marsalis

Saxquest’s repair guru, Chris Watrous, and owner, Mark Overton, take care of Branford Marsalis’s tenor before his gig at the Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis on Sunday January 22, 2012. Using an ironing board for a repair bench and a couch for a repair stool, Chris spent a few hours closing down the key heights to optimize the feel and sound that Branford was looking for. The concert was Branford Marsalis and Joey Calderazzo in their duo configuration. A must see live event if you get the chance.

Busy January!

This is going to be a busy month at Saxquest! Hopefully we saw some of you at the recent JEN show in Louisville last weekend. Mark will roaming the aisles at NAMM in a couple weeks, and then we have a large display at the MMEA show at the end of the month. If you are in the midwest and you’ll be at MMEA, stop by and play some horns!

This week we played catch-up and added a ton of “new” vintage mouthpieces and saxes to our website, including a couple very nice Mark VI tenors. Give us a call if you see anything you are interested in. And keep updated on the new happenings at Saxquest (announcements coming soon!) here and on our facebook page.

Saxquest – Free Concert Artist Series Performance Greg Osby – Dec 17 – 2PM

One more great jazz workshop at Saxquest to close out the year!! I’m excited to invite you out to check out Greg Osby this Saturday (Dec 17) at 2PM. As always, the setting will be informal and refreshments will be served.

Not too many musicians can say that they’ve recorded 15 records for Blue Note as a leader. Greg Osby counts himself as one of those musicians. Having been an established player with such notable artists as varied as Herbie Hancock, Dizzy Gillespie, Jackie DeJohnette, Andrew Hill, Muhal Richard Abrams, Jim Hall and Jaki Byard, Osby’s music is a living testament to what great music is all about!

While born right here in St. Louis, Greg has made New York his adopted home since the early 1980’s. Don’t miss this great opportunity to meet and hear a St. Louis native at the top of his game! Greg truly is one of the great jazz players of our time!

I’ve attached a flier with all of the details. Its free and open to the public. Please pass along the flier to all those you feel may be interested.

A special THANKS to P. Mauriat Saxophones for sponsoring this event and I hope to see you out on Saturday at the Saxquest Shop. Remember, our enthusiasm to continue hosting these kinds of events depends on how many people we get coming to check them out. Thanks for your support!!!
