Bargain Bin Price! Vintage Buescher 400 Tenor Sax in Gold Lacquer, Serial #472969
Buescher 400
This is a 1960's vintage Buescher 400 tenor saxophone in gold lacquer, serial #472969. These horns are great for any player looking for a solid work horse on a limited budget. This one has the history of some past body and solder repair and shows general play wear (some smaller dings still remain). But as it sits it is in solid physical condition and has a lot to offer the next owner. The sax is with all of the original nickel silver key work as well as the original Buescher snap resonators. This saxophone is outfitted with a non original Buescher neck from the proper vintage. Our shop techs have verified it is properly aligned and fitted to this sax.
The tenor came in playing through leaks on an older pad job from another shop. Although it does not look like the pads have seen much use so far they are already on the older side. At this time the horn is leaking pretty bad and is not going to be ready for a lot serious playing until it receives at least good set up. Some techs and players will perhaps prefer to have the horn completely re-padded to make sure it is perfect. At this time the horn is playing decently down to a low D. If you blow hard enough you can get out the low Bb, but it is not really “gig ready” at this time.
These When set up right with good pads the 400 is a robust and powerful playing tenor. They pack a lot of punch and are a great way to get a powerful American vintage sound with out getting into a higher price range.
Saxquest has a number of great vintage saxophones for sale. With our shop being very backed up at this time we are now offering a number of them in as is condition at lower prices. This sax ships out in as is condition with a wood hard case.
