Store Information
This is a custom restored C.G. Conn New Wonder alto sax, serial number 93950. This first series New Wonder dates to 1922. It has been professionally restored in all new frosty silver plate and looks stunning. Currently needing some work, we are selling this beauty as-is.
The photos don't do this beaut justice. It looks incredible, with a frosty matte silver plated body, which is just starting to tarnish (can be hand polished to shine like new), with new gold wash inside the bell. It has shiny silver keywork and inlay in the engraving, including some custom aftermarket engraving on the bell. It looks tremendous, and someone put some serious money into this sax to get this look. Physically, the sax shows no dents or previous repairs, and the factory rolled tone holes have never been filed on that I can spot. The original neck is in great shape, and the microtuner spins freely.
During that custom work, the horn was repadded with all new pads and brown plastic resonators, but it was never given a good pro set up. The action feels a bit clunky under your fingers, and the sax is not sealing well, with a good number of leaks up and down the tube. It needs a good regulation, some new material and pad sealing, before it is ready to play.
If you've got the time to put a bit of care into this sax, you'll have a good playing horn with a unique look that will turn heads. Ships in its original hard case.
