Store Information
This is a very straight 1962 vintage King Super 20 Silver Sonic series tenor sax, serial number 385139. This original lacquer horn is in fantastic shape and has recently been repadded. It will get a fresh cleaning and regulation from our repair shop before shipping and come to you ready to go.
Despite its age, the lacquer on this tenor is in really great shape from top to bottom, showing just normal wear from honest use. This tenor has been played a ton over its life (the original pearls feel obviously worn) but it was never abused. The sax has a smattering of tiny surface dings here and there, but shows no major dents or past trauma, and no resolders that I can spot. The original neck has never been pulled down. This model features a sterling silver bell and neck, with sunburst engraving on the low B/Bb key cups, as seen in the photos. It is a true “Cleveland” era Super 20, made before the factory moved to Eastlake.
This tenor was fully repadded in the last year or two, using leather pads matched with domed metal resonators. Pads are still in like-new shape with no obvious wear. In order to make it perfect, the sax will go through our shop for a fresh cleaning/polishing and adjustment. We'll clean it inside and out, replace some material, and clean/float pads as needed to make sure it is 100% perfect. The action/key heights/spring tensions will all be optimized.
This tenor takes all of the air you can push and never seems to hit a wall. Big, powerful voice with a lot of meat down in the bell and it stays fat as you climb into the altissimo. A whole lot of fun to play! Ships in its original hard case.
