Conn USA 11M Baritone Saxophone in Gold Lacquer #M44826 AS-IS
Big Fat Conn Sound with a LOW A - Fantastic Price
Here we have a Conn USA 11M baritone sax with a low-A in gold lacquer and nickel-plated keys, serial number M44826. It’s playing through a few leaks, but we are offering this one in as-is condition, needing an overhaul.
The Conn 11M is essentially a 12M with an extension added to the bell, along with additional keywork to account for the low-A. These are actually somewhat rare because they weren’t produced for an extensive period in the U.S., nor when manufacturing transferred to Mexico. This one is American-made.
The instrument features full-chromatic keywork from low-A up to palm-F, with a front-F mechanism included. The low-A key is accessible in two places: an extended key near the Bb table key and another for your left-hand thumb.
Physically, its original lacquer has survived a lot of activity over the decades. There are quite a few original pads, and they seem to be working well enough for a playtest. Even though it’s playing through some leaks, the horn requires a full overhaul. This would include body work, dent removal, disassembly and re-rounding of the J-tube, and replacement of all felts and pads.
Sonically, this bari plays with a spread, dark character and delivers a lot of power thanks to its free-blowing feel. The low register tunes up well. The response is slightly resistant in the low-end due to the bell-extension design, but it’s comparable to a standard low-A horn with a one-piece bell.
We will ship this horn in as-is condition with its original neck. It will come in a Conn low-A baritone sax hard-shell carrying case.
