Bargain Intermediate Player
This is what you want to see in the As-Is section, a working TS200. For those unaware, these are beautifully crafted, made in the USA, Selmer horns from the 1980s. Their design is a remnant of the great Selmer Omega tenor sax with simplified keywork. If you're looking for a solid horn that plays right this very instant, the universe is sending you a sign.

This Selmer USA horn has all sorts of beautiful features for a student/intermediate horn, so please allow me to lay them out. It has a serial number #1263687, crisp gold lacquer top to bottom, stainless-steel springs, original 1980s pads with brown plastic resonators, chromatic keywork from low Bb to high F#, a front F mechanism as well, right side bell keys. The key-touches look real, but some are replaced and plastic, so this has had some work put into it in the past. The rollers are plastic, moving freely, the table is easy to maneuver. These ergonomics are great, and the high F# key is so easy to reach if you've got smaller hands you'll get the most benefit.

Sonically, this horn has a solid dark, slightly spread character, and it takes air nicely as it is free blowing. The low end has some bite to it, and the high end can project well, a player will be able to grow a long time on the TS200. You could play classical literature, venture into jazz, play rock gigs; this horn will handle all of that and more. The main drawback of this horn, if you even view it as such, is it has single-post construction rather than ribbed construction. What does that mean? Well, structurally this can lead to adjustment issues from posts being more likely to be pushed in or knocked around, maybe it even makes the sound more spread as opposed to focused. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, just something to be mindful of if this is a youngster's first-ever horn.

The TS200 model is from the 1980s I'd expect these pads are original to the horn. These pads seem to be playing well at the moment. However they are on the older side and are at the end of their life. Before the horn is can be considered in perfect playing condition it is going to need to be re-padded. As our shop is very busy we are offering it in as is condition at a very reduced price.

If you'd like to include an overhaul with purchase of this instrument, we've added the option to do so. The overhaul will include full disassembly, cleaning, re-padding, replace all felts, corks, and add in anti-friction synthetic materials, tighten the key action and make it move freely and smooth, replace any springs. This horn will be in perfect playing condition afterwards. If you go with this option please allow an 8-10 week turnaround window.

We will ship this sax in as-is condition, with its original neck and in a black Selmer USA box-style carrying-case with a black cushy interior.
