This is an absolutely gorgeous condition Hohner President series alto sax, serial number 14856. Hohner's sax department was headed up by Max Keilwerth, Julius's lesser-known brother, who took his knowledge learned from the family business to branch out on his own. Made in Germany, these are fine saxophones with some unique features, and this example is in tremendous shape.
As you can see in the photos, it doesn't appear this sax has ever seen any hard playing time. The original lacquer is 95% intact, with only light wear mostly on the backside of the bell from where it may rest against the player during use. There are a couple tiny pings here and there but no serious dents or past trauma. The original neck has never been damaged and it too is in fantastic shape. This horn has some cool features, including a palm high F# key situated just over from your palm D/Eb/F. Not the most ergonomic, but definitely shows that Max Keilwerth was thinking outside the box.
As is commonly seen on many older horns in this nice of condition that come through our doors, it has been a long time since this alto was repadded; in fact, I think it has mostly or all original pads. As such, it definitely needs a repad. We are currently offering the sax as-is at a very low price, but if you'd like us to do the work, we've offered that option above. Our full professional overhaul would include all new pads and material, with metal resonators. We'd do all necessary dent work and optimize spring tensions and key heights for both feel and response. Normally $1300+, we'd do the whole job for just $850. Please allow 6-8 weeks for us to do this work, if selected.
We don't see a whole lot of Hohner saxes come through the shop, and never is such nice of condition. A great opportunity for players and collectors alike.
