Late Vintage Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone – As Is Low Price, Serial #212221
Mark VI Tenor 1973
This is a vintage Selmer Paris Mark VI tenor saxophone from 1973, serial number 212221. A late vintage VI like this one is a nice item to pick up if you are trying to get into a Mark VI for a lower price point.
This one is in nice physical condition and has a great look. It features a rich dark lacquer color across the body with some normal cosmetic wear. At some point in the past the lacquer on the sax was refinished. The American floral engraving can still be seen across the bell area. All of the original key work, guards and neck are with this saxophone. Since being re-lacquered the sax does looks to have received plenty of play time but does not show traces of major past repair. A few things to note, the neck has been very slightly pulled down and the rear portion of the bow cap has been pushed in ever so slightly. The condition of the bow itself is still excellent.
The sax looks like it was re-padded several years back with a set of leather pads and brown nylon resonators. At this time there is a large number of leaks across the entire instrument which make it difficult to play. It is also starting to show some grime build up around the body and pads, possibly mold.
This sax has the potential to be a great playing Mark VI. Ideally the saxophone needs to be cleaned up and overhauled before it is going to be ready for any serious amount of use. At this time we are selling this one in as is condition at a much lower price point. We would love to do this one up right but with the long line in our shop we are currently listing some great horns at lower as is prices.
