This is a superb condition Selmer Paris Reference 54 “Flamingo” series alto saxophone, serial number 705083. This special edition of the Ref 54 was one of the bird series made for a handful of years. Each version featured unique engraving, and this one was made without high F#, for added resonance over a standard 54. This alto has been well cared for by its one owner, and is in fantastic shape.
The original lacquer on this alto is 98%, with only minor wear on a couple touch points. There's some minor scratching on the bottom bow and on the neck (never pulled down), and only one tiny ding in the bell flare, as seen in the photos. That is the only past damage, the rest of the horn is in perfect condition. We will take that ding out in our shop before shipping, and it will leave just a spec of lacquer imperfection from the work. The sax will also get a full overhaul, as it still has mostly original pads and they are starting to show their age. Our overhaul will include all new pads and material and a precise regulation. It will feel and play like a new horn again when we are done.
This Reference plays with a very warm, yet robust sound. Sometimes these horns can be overly dark, but this one takes your air quickly and response is quick and light. You can really feel the resonance under your fingers throughout the range of the instrument.. It's a dynamic player and versatile for any setting you find yourself in. Ships in its original case with the custom Selmer Flamingo badge.
