Store Information
Early Eastlake vintage King Super 20 tenor sax in original lacquer, serial number 433162. This tenor has been around the block, but we're going to properly restore it and ship it in perfect playing shape. Finding a restored Super 20 under $3000 is practically unheard of, so I do not expect this tenor to be here for long!
The “front” of this horn looks pretty nice with only light lacquer wear on the usual touch points and whatnot. There is more moderate lacquer wear on the backside of the horn and bell, as seen in the photos. The sax shows light dents and dings here and there, including on the neck, but nothing too serious, and all dents will be removed during our overhaul. The sterling silver neck (with underslung octave key) also currently has a pickup installed, but we'll remove that and seal it with a sterling silver flush plug, which will blend seamlessly once we are finished.
Our full overhaul will include all of the above mentioned dent work, as well as cleaning inside and out, all new pads (with metal resonators), corks, felts, and our pro setup. We'll tighten up the action so there is no lost motion in the action, and set the key heights and spring tensions just where they should be on a vintage Super 20 (lighter action, medium-open heights). It will feel like a new horn once we are done, and all work is included in the price.
This tenor plays with a surprisingly warm tone, but definitely not stuffy or inhibiting. It has a full response and takes your air extremely efficiently. It will be even better once our work is complete. It is currently in its original King case, but the case is in rough shape (lots of tape holding it together), so we may swap that out for a non-original case in better shape before we ship it.
