This is a cool old Martin “Typewriter” alto sax, serial number 98082. Dating to 1929, this horn was produced at a time when the USA was fascinated with those classic machines. The typewriter had been standardized and had gotten cheap enough that households were buying them up, and Martin tried to capitalize on the fad. Unfortunately from a saxophone standpoint, it doesn't work as well, so the model was killed off pretty quickly, making this model fairly hard to find these days.
As you can see in the photos, nearly all of the touch points have typewriter-like pearl touches. It's not very practical from a player's perspective, but it's a cool collector's piece these days. The horn is in solid shape, with 98%+ original silver plate intact. It is tarnished, but just needs to be cleaned and polished to shine like new. The original neck is included. All of the keywork moves freely, but the sax will need a complete overhaul if you plan on playing it. Pads and material are old. Whether you want to shine it up as a neat talking piece, or restore it for playing purposes, it's a fascinating addition to anyone's collection. A very unique piece of sax history.
