Here we have a used Selmer metal C** mouthpiece for alto sax in silver plate, tip opening 0.070-inch/1.78mm. This mouthpiece is in good physical condition and plays with a decent resistance.

Selmer made these scroll shank style pieces for a long time and haven't really changed the model since the early 20th century, which seems strange to say, but Selmer is a fan of 'If it ain't broke don't fix it'. With this in mind, you really can't make assumptions about its age, this may very well be a modern era manufacture.

Physically, this piece is looking good. The rails and table are all in great condition, the rail tip has an indentation from a fall, but it doesn't seem to affect its ability to play. The baffle is predominantly flat, the sidewalls are semi-rounded and angled inward to a rounded small chamber. The exterior has some scratches from the ligature and as always, with silver plate items, could use a polish every so often to keep the silver shining bright. The beak has been protected well, the original hard rubber bite plate has almost no teeth marks.

Sonically this piece is capable of all sorts of delicate sweet sounds you need for classical music, a little bit of presence from the compact chamber. It gives a warm, vibrant core, and plays with a bit of resistance while projecting well.

This is a decent piece for anyone looking to play with a larger ensemble, you will have the restraint to blend with the ability to project very well out front of an orchestra or concert-band. The extra * marking indicates it's in between a C* and a D facing for Selmer.
