King H.N. White – Cleveland OH, 1937
This is an early vintage King Zephyr Special made by The H.N. White Company, serial number 209907. It is always a treat to get a Zephyr Special in the shop, even better in original finish. The lacquer on this tenor shows a rich honey tint which is nicely complemented by the crisp deco engraving. In addition to the engraving around the bell these saxophones also have a beautiful sunburst pattern on the key cups for low B, Bb, C, C# and Eb. These saxophones have open faced bell key guards, triple neck strap ring and double socket sterling silver neck.

The Zephyr Special is an absolute blast to play. They take the air in very fast and are externally free blowing. This one in particular is a fabulous player while featuring a powerful, brilliant sound with a lot of power.

The body of this saxophone is in good shape showing some history of past repair. Looking over the instrument you can see the traces of past dent work along the back of the body tube as well as around the bow. The original bow cap was very slightly pushed in at some point in the past. All of the original key guards and guard feet are in very good condition. The post to the palm D key has been repaired in the past. This saxophone is with the original sterling silver neck and matching serial number stamp. At some point in the past the neck was re-finished.

This sax came in on an overhaul from another shop with a set of leather pads and metal Maestro resonators. The pads are still in great shape and have plenty of life left in them. In order to ensure the horn is in perfect playing condition it is currently awaiting a professional set up in our shop. The set-up will include a dissemble and cleaning followed by a precise regulation of the key work. While the horn is apart the tech will also change out any necessary corks and felts.

The Zephyr Special ships out in perfect playing condition with a fresh set-up from our shop and a vintage wood hard case.
