This is a nice vintage Mark VI tenor sax in original lacquer finish from the 1970's, serial number 183578. These late vintage Mark VI's are a great way to get into a vintage Selmer while avoiding the higher prices of the earlier horns. This one shows a healthy amount of play wear from use as well as a little bit of past repair history. The original lacquer has a clean look and is nicely complemented by crisp American floral engraving. This saxophone does include the original neck.
A horn like this is a fantastic work horse item. Perfect for the modern professional who needs a horn with plenty of flexibility. It plays with super rich character and a medium warm color. The air intake is quick and easy, it should be considered noticeably more free blowing in comparison to most of the modern Selmers.
Looking over the saxophone, the body is in solid shape as it sits. There are some sings of past dings being removed here and there. It also has received a couple of re-solders to some of he bell key guard feet on the guards to low C and Eb. All of the original key work is present. The body tube and bell are both in great shape. The bell flare has never been seriously damaged or repaired in the past. This saxophone is with the original Mark VI neck. The neck was slightly pulled down in the past but will be properly corrected while it is in our shop.
The tenor came into our shop having not been seriously serviced in some time. In order to make sure it is perfect for years to come it is currently in line to receive a professional overhaul in our shop. The work will include a dissemble and cleaning followed by precise key fitting and a set up with a new set of premium leather pads, metal domed resonators as well as all new corks and felts. While the horn is in our shop we will also clean up the past re-solder to the low Eb key guard and remove the small dings around the bow.
This tenor ships out in perfect playing condition with a Saxquest professional overhaul and a good protec contoured case.
