This is a vintage Selmer Paris Mark VI tenor saxophone in raw brass, serial number 159613. If you are looking to get into a good work horse horn at a good price horns like this one are worth their weight in gold. When we first came across this sax it was in need of an overhaul and some serious clean up. It has now been mechanically restored and thoroughly cleaned up by Aaron Standing of Saxquest. It is now in perfect playing condition showing a clean raw brass body. It was also outfitted with a nice non original Ponzol tenor sax neck.
The saxophone has had a history of past repair and solder work. As it sits now the body is in great shape with all of the original key work. The bell, bow and bow cap are also in great shape. Its bow cap looks fantastic and has never been pushed in. This particular tenor is that it has original key work to high F#. At the time the sax was manufactured this was a special order feature.
This saxophone was recently overhauled in our shop and is now in perfect playing condition. It was precisely set up with all new Valentino pads, metal domed resonators and all new corks and felts. When we found this horn it was with an slightly older Peter Ponzol tenor neck. The neck is in very nice physical condition and does not have any history of major past repair.
As a player this sax is very smooth in its response to air flow. It does have a more direct focus in comparison to the very early Mark VI models from the late 1950's. The sound and response on the tenor allows for a lot of sonic flexibility while keeping a warm center. This tenor has seen a lot of performances in its day but has a tremendous amount of playing left to do. An ideal horn for the professional who needs a horn they can take to any gig.
