This is a Selmer Paris Mark VI alto saxophone in original lacquer, serial number 93750. Manufactured in 1961, this particular alto is a good example of a non engraved model. It shows the history of plenty of past play time over the years but is still in great physical condition sporting original lacquer finish.
As a player this Mark VI showcases a warmer core sound with clear projection and just a little bit more focus in comparison to many of the five digit altos from the late 1950's. The key work feels smooth and fluid under the fingers. All of the key pearls are in good shape as well and have not become overly worn down or flattened over time.
The body of the sax is in great shape in regards to the body tube, bow and bell. Its bow cap is also still in great shape and has never been pushed in. Looking over the horn closely there is a re-solder repair on the top guard foot for the bell key guard. At some point a past repair tech put a light lacquer clear coat on top of the horns finish. This is sometimes done as an added protector. Most likely done a long time ago, as a result you can see in the pictures where it is now starting to flake. The original neck is with this saxophone. It shows similar cosmetic condition to the body of the sax but shows no trace of ever having been pulled down.
This alto is currently in the Saxquest shop awaiting a professional overhaul and cleaning. The overhaul will include a dissemble of the entire horn followed by a good clean up and through key fitting. It will then be freshly regulated and set up with a new set of Valentino pro pads, nylon resonators, new corks and new felts.
Ships out in perfect playing condition with a fresh overhaul from our shop and a vintage Buffet wood hard case.
