In 1971 the R&B world was turned upside down with the sudden death of one of its heavy weight players. On August 13 of that year the man was stabbed to death in an altercation outside of his home in New York City. In attendance at his funeral was Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Reverend Jesse Jackson.
