When alto saxophonist, Cannonball Adderley first came to New York in 1955 he was persuaded to sit in with Oscar Pettiford's group at the Cafe Bohemia. His playing created such a sensation that he was soon signed to Savoy and persuaded to play jazz full time in New York. Many of his most most famous recording were cut by Riverside Records from 1959-1963. With the collapse of Riverside in 1963, Cannonball quickly signed on with another label.
