The early 1920’s was a period of great excitement and development for Jazz and popular American music. Being a time of musical experimentation, musicians also introduced a number of instruments previously uncommon to the public. One of these musicians was noted for being a pioneer jazz saxophonist and was also a skilled multi instrumentalist. Playing a multitude of instruments, the musician was present on a number of important jazz recordings during the 1920's. He performed and recorded along side Frank Trumbauer, Bix Biederbecke and a score of other notable musicians.
The musician was labeled a child prodigy, taking piano lessons at age 2 and giving his first public recital at age 4. By his early teens he was leading his own musical groups and was active in the studio and music scene until the early fifties. Due to the fact that his main instrument is less common then most, this musician is often overlooked when critics discuss the masters of jazz.
