It is safe to say by the year 2013 most every aspiring jazz saxophonist has been touched either directly or indirectly by John Coltrane’s album Giant Steps. While the album is most widely known for its title track the entire disc is chalked full of impressive playing and compositions. One of the tracks on the album is a fast paced re-harmonization of the composition Tune-up. The performance of the re-harmonization is primarily a show case of Coltrane and the drummer on the session. This briskly paced track is also the shortest cut of the album.
Q: What is the name of the Tune-Up re-harmonization and what was the name of the drummer on the session.
Countdown, Art Taylor on Drums
