In 1977 Billy Joel released his hit album “The Stranger”. The album included a top 10 single which featured a jazz and alto saxophone icon. The saxophone icon was a native of Massachusetts and a musical disciple of Lennie Tristano. Although he was a well known jazz player in his own right the hit by Billy Joel brought him fully into the lime light and allowed him to also become established as a rock saxophone icon.
Who was the alto saxophonist and what was the Billy Joel hit song?
