'67 Vintage Selmer Paris Mark VI Tenor Sax - Great Price! - Serial # 143904

NICE 1967 vintage Selmer Paris Mark VI tenor sax in original American style floral engraving, serial number 143904. This tenor has got it going on and is a great way to pick up a mid- 60s vintage VI at a good price. It will have our complete overhaul in it, so you can have reassurance that it will be playing great for a long time to come.

This tenor looks fantastic with excellent lacquer coverage throughout and just light, honest wear from regular use. It was relacquered a long time ago, and is one of the best factory jobs you'll ever see. The engraving remains crisp and detailed with absolutely no signs of buffing anywhere. I've venture to say most people would think it is original. Physically, the sax is very straight. A couple little dings have been removed here or there, but no serious past dent work or trauma. The top foot of the low Eb keyguard was resoldered before the horn was relacquered, but it is very hard to spot, even if you know what to look for. The original neck was ever-so-slightly pulled down in the past, but it has been corrected and will be checked out in our shop to make sure it is still perfect.

We got this sax in old pads that were past their prime, so it is due to get a full overhaul from our repair shop. All new pads, matched with seamless, oversized slightly domed metal resonators, with new key adjustment corks and felts throughout. We'll adjust the action to factory specs and it will come to you feeling like a brand new horn under your fingers.

These mid-60s tenors are great for musicians who play a variety of gigs, because they can do it all. This tenor has a warm sound but not overly dark, focused but not extremely centered or “tight,” and big and full without sounding blatty or losing its edge. You can dial it down and do smokey jazz or push it hard for a biting rock solo. This tenor ships in its original hard case. The zipper on the case is broken, so a previous owner put straps around the case and then used a Selmer leather case cover to wrap the whole thing, and it works.
