Early Vintage Selmer Paris Modele 22 Alto Saxophone in Silver Plate, Serial #1197
Selmer Modele 22 1923
This is a very early vintage Selmer Paris alto saxophone. Medele 22 in silver plate, serial number 1197. The saxophone is in stunning condition for its vintage.
These Modele 22 models were the first model made completely under the roof of Selmer Paris. It does feature key work from low Bb to high palm F. Instead of having a side Bb tone hole the side Bb key actives a chromatic mechanism which allows you to play either bisc Bb or chromatically up to Bb from the traditional A fingering.
The alto was most likely originally manufactured in raw brass. A later owner had the saxophone overhauled and silver plated with a gold wash accent around the bell flare. The neck has also been gold plated. It is currently playing decently down to low Bb on a slightly older set of standard grade leather pad and metal domed resonators.
The body of the saxophone is in outstanding condition showing no history of repair on the existing silver plate finish. Its body tube, bow, bow cap and bell are all in great shape. All of the original key work and key guards are intact. Due to the very rare nature and early vintage of this alto it is most ideal for the collector. It is not advisable for use by a student saxophone player.
This alto ships out playing in as is condition with a non original wood hard case.
