MINT Condition Selmer Paris Mark VI alto sax in original silver plate, serial number 71064. They don't come any prettier than this; this sax is about as perfect a Mark VI as you'll find. It was recently overhauled in the Saxquest repair shop and comes in perfect playing shape.

This is a stunning horn for the collectors out there. This alto dates to 1957, but you'd never know it based on its condition. This a “Euro” model Mark VI without engraving, in original silver plate that is 99% intact. I see no real finish wear to speak of, even on the touch points where your hands would rest. The plating was hand polished during our overhaul and shines like new. There's some cosmetic scratching on the body, but nothing that digs through the plating. The only previous repair work I can spot is some minor past dent work in the bottom bow area. If it had been a lacquered horn, you'd see lacquer crazing from the work, but since it is silver, the work is really hard to spot. There are no other previous repairs. The bottom bow cap, bell-to-body brace, and bell flare are all perfect. The original neck has never been pulled down or damaged, and it still shows all of the original blue paint around the “S” of the octave key.

This alto received our full overhaul in 2021 and has not been played much since. It has all new pads with oversized seamless metal resonators, as well as new key adjustment corks/felts throughout. All spring tensions and key heights have been optimized for feel and response, and it feels like a new horn under your fingers.

This Mark VI plays with a very warm, slightly darker tone, very easy on the ears. Don't let that fool you though; it isn't a pushover, and you can move a lot of air through this horn and its sound gets big and punchy in a hurry. As a “short bow” Mark VI, this alto doesn't suffer from some of the intonation problems in the bottom end. It's a fantastic instrument for players and collectors alike. Ships in a Selmer Vanguard hard case with leather case cover.
