This is an early 1950s vintage Conn 6M series alto sax, serial number 347425. Made just after Conn stopped rolling their tone holes, this alto still has all the features that you'd associate with a “naked lady” series 6M, including the same engraving pattern! Currently in need of a restoration, we are selling this particular horn as-is at a lower price.
This alto has never been relacquered, and the original lacquer shows moderate wear from a lifetime of use. Additionally, there's a good number of dents and dings on both the tube and bottom bow. The original neck, which does not have the microtuner mechanism, has the double socket receiver (resoldered). The neck has previously been pulled down, but not too bad.
Currently playing on old pads, the sax will need a restoration. A good tech can get the worst of the dents out within an hour, and how far you want to chase the little stuff is up to you. It will need all new pads and material too. Rather than let this horn languish in our basement, we're selling it as-is. If you have a favorite local tech who does your work, this is a great find for people who like the vintage horns. Ships in a hard case.
