This is a sweet, excellent condition C.G. Conn “Chu Berry” era alto sax in original nickel plate, serial number 204310. This alto dates to 1927 by the serial number, part of the second series of New Wonder models. It looks amazing for its age, and will ship with a fresh pro set up from our repair shop.
This alto shows typical cosmetic surface scratching from a lifetime of use, but since nickel is so much more durable than lacquer, or even silver plate, it still looks great and has very little actual finish wear, mostly just on a couple touch points. There are no dents or serious past trauma and everything is still in perfect working order. The factory rolled tone holes have never been filed on, and the horn has such features as trill G# in the right hand and fingernail file G# in the table keys. It does have its original microtuner neck, which has never been pulled down/damaged, but unfortunately the microtuner mechanism is frozen and does not spin.
Pads are great shape, fitted with metal resonators, and they have lots of life left in them. The sax will get a fresh adjustment from our shop before shipping, where we'll replace all key corks and felts and regulate the action, just to make sure it comes to you feeling great and sealing perfectly.
I've always had an affinity for nickel Conns. They are real rippers! This one fits the bill too, with a big, edgy response, and it takes your air extremely efficiently. You don't see this finish very much, but when we get them in, I'm always blown away. Great alto for the price, and ships in its original hard case.
