This is 1934 vintage Buescher New Aristocrat series alto sax in original silver plate, serial number 268098. This horn is sort of a transitional, in that it doesn't say New Aristocrat on the bell (just has “The Buescher Aristocrat” engraved) but it is a New Aristocrat in all but name. It has the New Aristocrat style keywork (table keys, split bell keys) and Art Deco style engraving. The sax is in great shape and will get a fresh pro overhaul from our repair shop before shipping.
The New Aristocrat was made for just a couple years, '32-'34, and is one of the more rare Bueschers around. It was built around the existing True Tone bodies, but had improvements that were definitely leading to the long-running Aristocrat line. This example looks great. The silver has tarnished with time but shows little finish wear, even in the touch points/keys. No dents or signs of previous damage/repair, and honestly the sax doesn't look to have ever been played very much. The original “01” neck is likewise in excellent condition.
This horn is currently sitting in very old pads, so it will get a full restoration in our shop, all included in the price. We'll take it apart, clean and hand polish the horn to shine like new, and replace all pads and material. The sax has most of its original metal snap-in resonators, so we'll retain those, and replace the couple missing ones with metal resonators for a similar look. Once complete, the sax will be in perfect playing shape and look like a brand new sax.
These early vintage Bueschers are known for being extremely resonant instruments and I expect nothing less once this one is restored. If it hasn't sold by then, we'll take new photos and post a play-test video. The sax ships in its original hard case, which shows off some classic 60s era stickers but is in good working order.
