Here's a very cool horn for the collection: an original lacquer Martin Magna series alto sax from 1959, serial number 206895. Magna's are cool horns as it is, but this one features an original (with matching serial number) sterling silver neck. Extremely rare, and highly sought-after by collectors and Martin lovers.
This horn looks great, showing only nominal lacquer wear from light playing over the years. The only previous repair is some minor dent work in the bottom bow curve. The bell flare is perfect, and the bell-to-body brace has never been pushed in. The sterling neck has never been pulled down or damaged.
This alto was fully overhauled a couple years ago by renowned sax tech Aaron Barnard, using premium firm leather pads and machined, nickel plated brass disc resonators. The sax has not seen much playing since the work and all of the pads and material still look fresh. We'll perform a fresh pro setup before shipping, just to make sure everything is sealing properly when it goes out the door.
This alto plays like a dream. Very big, full sound, offering excellent control and a strong core. It takes your air quickly with just the right amount of positive resistance to give you something to push against. Projection is outstanding. Great horn for players and collectors alike.
