The Hoss was developed in the spirit of one of the best playing 1950's vintage Berg Larsen duckbill hard rubber bari pieces we have ever come across. If you are looking for a fat robust sound with a warm center and plenty of carrying power you will love the HOSS.

The HOSS has a rather long body length and shows off a classic “duck bill” shape at the beak. The relaxed angle of the beak allows for comfort and flexibility and does not leave the player with an awkward feeling regarding their personal embouchure. The inside of the mouthpiece features a medium open throat, bullet chamber and a steady floor slope with just the slightest baffle shaping below the tip rail.

The trick with all of the Saxquest mouthpieces was to build in harmonic complexity while manipulating sound concepts such as brightness and darkness all while maximizing the efficiency and keeping the resistance point to where it matches the chamber volume and gels with a variety of tip openings.

The Hoss is made from ultra-premium solid German bar stock hard rubber. It is turned on a CNC controlled high precision lathe and then milled on an absolute state of the art 5-axis vertical mill. Shaping of the throat, baffle & tip rail; profiling of the chamber; under-cutting of the sidewalls, and cutting of the window is all accomplished using three strokes per pass. This results in fabulously tight tolerances which leads to incredible consistency from piece to piece.
