This is a used, good condition Eastman 52nd series alto sax, serial number 11534807. Being an original unlacquered horn that has been played for a couple years, it won't win any beauty contests, but it's a very nice player and is a great choice for advancing players looking for a professional alto on a budget.
The photos above were taken before it went over to our repair shop for a cleaning, so look past the dirt, as all of that will be cleaned up (new photos will be taken once the work is completed). The sax shows light wear-and-tear but almost all of that is cosmetic. Unlacquered horns always look grimy after a few plays and this one is no exception, but it will be cleaned and polished inside and out before it ships out. There are no dents or dings anywhere, no signs of past damage or repair, including on the original neck. In addition to the cleaning, we'll replace any pads starting to show wear as well as all key adjustment material. We'll regulate the stacks and optimize key heights and spring tensions throughout.
I really like the Eastman horns for what they do. They sort of blend the new with the old, giving a modern feel and ergonomics with a “vintage” sort of sound and response. Very big sound and not as focused or centered as most horns that are made today. If you are looking for an excellent jazz horn, this alto will not disappoint. Ships in its original case.
