Vintage Conn Art Decco 'Transitional' Alto Sax in Original Silver Plate, Serial #247074
Conn Art Decco Alto
This is a very cool vintage C.G. Conn “Transitional” Art Decco alto saxophone, serial number 247074. The saxophone features all of the mainstay Conn goodies including rolled tone holes, adjustable thumb rest under-slung neck with micro tuner and trill G#. All done up with good pads these horns are superb free blowing players and are a iconic item of the big band period.
This one looks like it had a pretty active life and then spent many years not being played. The silver plate finish is original showing around 80% coverage. Its body is in very good physical condition. Looking over it closely there does not seem to be any history of major past repair, no re-solders. The bow is in good shape but the bow cap was very slightly pushed in at some point.
This saxophone has all of the original keys and guards with it and in good condition. All of the key work is free moving, nothing is frozen. The micro tuner is also moving freely.
At the moment all of the pads on the sax are extremely old and are in various stages of deterioration. The saxophone will need to be mechanically overhauled before it will be ready for any playing. We would love to do this saxophone up right but at this time our shop is very backed up. As such we are letting this one go for a lower as is price. Ships in as is condition, does not include case. Please let us know if you have any questions.
