Vintage Conn 'Chu Berry' Series Tenor Sax w/ Custom Overhaul - Serial # 224546

This is a very nice playing vintage C.G. Conn “Chu Berry” era tenor sax, serial number 224546. This tenor was completely restored in premium firm leather pads matched with oversized TM Custom screwback brass resonators. It is a premium overhaul and really makes this tenor sing.

As you can see in the photos, this tenor has been around the block, but don't let cosmetics fool you, as she still has plenty to offer. It shows past dent work/repair and resolders, but a sax tech owned this horn previously and lovingly, painstakingly restored it. The sax features good material and pads with those custom resonators, and is in perfect playing shape. A second neckstrap ring was added (and moved a couple times) for better comfort. Sugru was added for a more comfortable bis key extension, as well as a bit on the palm D. The big knock against some of these older American horns is their feel, but the tech did the little things to really make it feel better. The neck is not original but is from a later era Conn (with funnel 8ve key pip) and is in excellent shape, and it matches the horn sonically.

This tenor plays with a big, beefy sound, with a lot of warmth and a big presence that hits hard. It is very free blowing and resonant, and takes your air extremely efficiently. This is a whole lot of tenor for the price, and is a great find for lovers of vintage horns and that classic Conn sound.
