Couf Superba I
This is a nice H Couf Superba I alto saxophone in gold lacquer, serial number 81486. This horn was made by Julius Keilwerth in their West Germany days, produced for the Armstrong company when Couf was their vice president. It has features of the classic Keilwerth saxes, including rolled tone holes and a powerful sound.

The body of the Superba I is in great shape. It shows around a 90% or more original lacquer. There are a few small repairs from the past but it has never seen in serious trauma. Just a couple of the guard feet on the alto F# and Low C guard have been solder repaired. There is also evidence of some past dent work in the curve of the bottom bow. All of the rolled tone holes on the sax are in excellent condition as is the original neck.

The Couf is a ideal horn for pro players looking for a lot of projection and power. These horns will take a in a ton of air and can be pushed very hard. These qualities make them a favorite among the rock and funk pros. With the right mouthpiece they can be excellent jazz players as well. The bigger bell and bow volume help provide the player with a big fat quality from the bell keys all he way into the altissimo.

This alto was overhauled less than 10 years ago in another shop with some medium firm leather pads and mix match of metal resonators. The pads are getting on the firm side and have harder broken in feel but are still clean. In order to keep the price of this saxophone at a lower premium we are not going to do a full set up on this sax. But we will take a look at it in the shop before shipping and replace a few pieces of key material and make sure all of the pad are sealing up.

Ships in original wood hard case with case cover.
