Vintage Julius Keilwerth Graslitz Bohmen Deluxe Alto Sax – Original w/ Pearl Side Keys, Serial #1212
Julius Keilwerth Graslitz Bohmen
This is a stunning vintage Keilwerth “Deluxe” alto saxophone in original silver plate, serial number 1212. One of the more unique items we have had around the shop in some time. This early vintage Keilwerth showcases a full complement of pearl inlays on the side and palm keys. It also has rolled tone holes, finger nail file G#, right hand trill G#, high trill Eb and a back door low Eb key. The design of this saxophones is strongly reminiscent to the American vintage Conn New Wonder II models.
The body of the sax shows some history of past use but does not look like it has ever seen any serious past repair. Its body tube, bow, bow cap and original neck with micro tuner are all in great condition. The bow cap has never been pushed in. All of the original key work is intact. Looking over the sax carefully it does not show any history of receiving any major abuse in the past or major repairs. The low Bb tone hole does have a small area that is not completely uniform. This is most likely a factory imperfection (see picture 25&26)
This saxophone looks like it was restored some time ago in another shop. It currently has an older set of pad and metal Noyak metal resonators. At this time the alto is not playing and is due for some TLC. Ultimately if this is an item you are going to be putting serious play time on it will need to be overhauled first. Due to the long repair line in our shop we are selling this saxophone in as is condition at a lower price point. If you have the time to wait and would like us to do the work, please select the overhaul option when adding the item to your shopping cart. The work will include a complete dissemble and silver cleaning before setting the horn up with premium leather pads, metal domed resonators and all new cork and felt materials. The current turn around time on overhauls is around 10 weeks.
