This is a late model King H.N. White model alto sax dating to 1927, just before the introduction of the Voll-True. This sax, serial number 105742, was meticulously restored in all new silver plate about a decade ago and not seen much playing since. It is due for a good regulation, and is a great find for tinkerers with a repair bench in the basement.
The newer silver on this alto is starting to tarnish pretty good, but with a bit of silver polish it is ready to shine up like new. It features a matte silver plated body with shiny silver keys and gold wash in the bell. The engraving was masked off during the work and has a burnished plating as well which really pops. At that time, the pads were all replaced as well, and since the horn hasn't been played a whole lot, they still look like new. However, there's a pretty bad leak somewhere around E or D and the sax is not playing below there. Optimally, the sax good use a fresh cleaning/polish, with a couple pads in the bottom stack and new material throughout, with a proper adjustment.
Once you get that work done, it should be a fine little player, showing what King was all about in the early decades of the company. This alto has a warm sound, darker than the later Super 20 horns, but with good presence.
