Sweet 1955 vintage King Zephyr alto sax, serial number 340724. This alto has a couple minor issues, but the biggest news is that the horn is in original lacquer, which is extremely rare to find on a vintage Zephyr.
The original lacquer on this alto is in solid shape, with wear mostly on the usual touch points, and a big bare spot on the bell as seen in the photos. Physically, the horn is very straight. There's some dings and dimples around the bottom bow area from normal use. The sax is missing the low C keyguard as well as the small octave key guides at the top of the body tube. The biggest knock is, unfortunately, the sax does not have its original neck, though the replacement neck matches the horn well, both physically (perfect fit) as well as sonically.
The current pad job on this alto looks to be just a couple years old, with pads in like-new condition, showing little play wear. Fitted with brown plastic resonators, the pads are sealing well with just some minor leaks as you get down into the bell keys. As our shop is backed up for 3+ months, we've made the decision to sell this alto as-is at a lower price. The sax is playing well as sits, but if you'd like to optimize it, your local tech should be able to bring it around without too much trouble.
The Zephyr is a great, lower-priced option for players who are looking for the boldness of a vintage King without spending Super 20 kind of money. This alto plays with a full and powerful voice, and takes your air very quickly. A tremendous alto for the price! Ships in a good hard case.
