This is a lovely Selmer Mark VI alto with original lacquer from 1957, serial number 70355. The sax is a great example of a five digit Mark VI with a high F#. At the time it was manufactured the high F# was a special order option. While this sax is by no means in mint condition the finish shows off a beautiful honey tint as well as crisp American floral engraving. The original lacquer has some honest play wear from past use and some history of minor repair. Looking over the sax closely the body tube, bow, bell and bow cap are all in great shape. The bow cap was never pushed in. There is a solder repair to the bottom guard foot of the low Eb key guard. The alto includes the original neck with matching serial number stamp. Its neck has never been pulled down.
As a player this is a seriously sweet item. It takes the air in smooth and easy with very little resistance. These earlier VI's are known for being exceptionally free blowing with a robust sonic character, this one in particular is no exception. It is a versatile instrument with a warm color and ultra clear projection. The key work and pearls feel comfortable under the fingers allowing for an ultra fluid playing experience.
This alto came in our shop on a nice set of leather pads and brown nylon resonators. The pads are all in great shape and have a ton of life left in them. In order to ensure the horn leaves in tip top playing condition it is currently awaiting a pro set up in our shop. The set up will included a dissemble and cleaning followed by a precise regulation of the key work. While it is apart on the bench our tech will also replace any needed materials.
Alto ships out in perfect playing condition with a pro set-up from our shop and the original Mark VI hard case.
