Vintage Selmer Paris Radio Improved Tenor Saxophone, Serial #19088
Selmer RI Tenor 1934
This is a vintage Selmer Paris Radio Improved tenor saxophone in gold lacquer finish, serial number 19088. These Radio Improved horns were one of the 3 versions of the Selmer “Super”. The SSS stamp (Selmer Super Sax) can clearly be seen towards the bottom of the bell engraving. It also shows the “Radio Improved” marking just above the Selmer crest.
This particular tenor has the look of a well seasoned professional instrument. It was re-finished a long time ago with the proper air baked lacquer. The current lacquer shows a proper dark honey tint across the body and is nicely complemented by the clear engraving around the bell area. Its original neck is with the horn, at this point most of the finish is off of the neck. The neck was pulled down slightly but it will be corrected while in our shop. All of the original key work and guards are intact and in solid condition. Like many of the best work horse saxophones this tenor does show history of past body and solder repair.
The tenor came into our shop on a slightly older pad job from another shop with a standard grade leather pad and brown nylon resonators. In order to make the horn perfect for the next owner we will be performing a professional set up on the sax before shipping. The work will include a complete dissemble and cleaning followed by precise regulation of the key work. While the horn is apart we will also change out several of the pads as well as any needed key materials and springs.
This tenor ships out in perfect playing condition with a fresh service from our shop and a vintage Selmer wood hard case.
