This is a nice original lacquer SML made King Mariguax tenor sax, serial number 25641. The King Marigaux was manufactured by SML in Paris and imported to the United States by King. This one is in solid condition and shows off a dark original lacquer finish and a high F# key.
This tenor was overhauled in the Saxquest shop in 2016 by Josh Creekmore and came back into our shop still playing up a storm. We will also look over the sax once more before it leaves the shop to ensure it shops in perfect playing condition. All of the leather Valentino pads and metal domed resonators are in great shape and have a ton of life left in them.
The body of the sax is in great shape showing some typical cosmetic play wear for a horn of its vintage. Some light dent work around the bow and a few re-solders on the lower key guard feet but nothing major. The body tube, bell, bell flare and original bow cap are all in nice shape. The original neck is in good shape with some history of repair. At this point it is in raw brass with no lacquer finish remaining. The original octave key guide on the neck was also replaced at some point.. The previous owner of this sax added a replacement thumb touch in the left hand, which is hard plastic. There has also been a additional neck strap ring added below the original. This sax also features a more comfortable non original plastic thumb rest.
King Marigaux tenors play with a full deep a resonant character very warm in color. Response is extremely quick and free blowing. These are not horns you hear as much about in the vintage sax community but are fantastic players and should not be overlooked. This saxophone ships in perfect playing condition with wood hard case.
